Even though it's harmless to humans, it can still be intimidating to the un-aware

First, make sure you keep your eye on the shark, and make it clear you can see the shark. most sharks break of potential attacks when they know they have been seen.
They employ a more cowardly ambush tactic as a rule and without the element of surprise, they think twice.
Easy to say though isnt it.
